The lockdown period has unfolded new skills, which we never thought we possessed.

One morning, my son asked me to give him a haircut.

I told him that neither did I have the experience nor the skills to do it.

He insisted, “Give it a try”.

I told him “no” and encouraged him to wait until the lockdown gets over.

The lockdown was extended and he was getting irritated with his long sideburns.

The request for a haircut appeared again.

I thought waiting helplessly for something that is not in our control would not help.

I accepted the challenge this time.

I saw a YouTube tutorial, tried to look for the right scissors, and of course, I had no clips.

He sat down excitedly and I started with butterflies in my stomach.

As I started to cut, the YouTube tips went up in the air and I went along with my instincts.

Halfway through I realized it was not turning out that great and quickly assessed if I could stop.

My son said you are doing a good job Mom, go on. I had no choice but to complete the task at hand.

After it was completed, he looked in the mirror and said “Good Job Mumma. It is looking nice. Congratulations on your first haircut.”

I thought his new hairstyle was a bit funny but children always look cute no matter what. More than the haircut, it was a relief that he was happy with what had conspired.

The trust he placed on the joy and me he got by Mumma cutting his hair touched my heart.

It made me think that many times Moms are not equipped for many of the situations motherhood brings along. This mother’s day, be proud of your adventurous journey of Motherhood.

Know that your child does not need a perfect mother but he/she only needs you.

Happy Motherhood to all the mothers out there.
