I feel motivated at this time of health crisis where I appreciate my ‘love for learning’ that is helping me be productive during this time. Learning in the form of documentaries, movies, videos, books, articles helps me combat boredom as well as ignites a love for knowledge. I realize that I have “appreciation for beauty and excellence”. Ever since I was a child, I have found it difficult to accept the way I looked and had a low self-esteem. Gradually, I have slowly learnt to see beauty in everything as well as appreciate it, which has greatly helped me in looking at myself differently.
“Creativity, ingenuity, and originality” which describes me to a good extent because as an introvert I tend to prefer solitary activities such as writing, blogging and like to experiment with new makeup looks. “Judgment, critical thinking, and open-mindedness guides me to view the ultimate truth. There are multiple perspectives and it’s important to respect everyone’s opinion and it is as important to exchange views with one another.
“Gratitude” also at the moment is strengthening my personality. During these times of uncertainty and chaos, I believe people should be grateful for what they have. The privileged over the world are hoarding on the necessities. Class marginalization is clearly seen between the privileged and the unprivileged. If everyone is grateful for what they receive and takes only as much as they need, the world will be a better place.
During these times, people all around are facing a high sense of existential crisis. Apart from affecting an individual’s emotions and behaviour, the current scenario is posing a huge toll on the economy. Many people are afraid of losing their jobs and fear that they might not get paid which will affect them. Communal hate as well as hate crime has increased with respect to Asian people. The marginalization and the gap between the privileged and the unprivileged have widened. These times take a major toll on people living in abusive households as well as people with any kind of psychological and physiological problem.
Most of the issues in our community arise from the lack of education or information. This issue can be solved through creating and spreading awareness. With regard to hate crimes or crimes against women, it is important to teach individuals from a very young age that they should respect another person’s space and regulate their own emotions. This can be done through creative methods like workshops, drama, street plays, etc.
Due to the rise of social media popularity among the Gen Z, more and more young adults suffer from low self esteem and self confidence. People need to be more appreciative and stop viewing beauty from a narrow perspective. Inclusivity in all aspects of social media or mass communication needs to be followed which means that people of colour, LGBTQ community, people with disabilities etc. need to be represented by brands and advertisements.
I think the strength that I wish to incorporate is being an extrovert. Being an introvert is difficult as people always assume that you are arrogant or rude. That is a strength that I hope I can work towards achieving by attending more group driven activities such as workshops, group therapy, making new friends, moving outside my comfort zone little by little.
Another virtue that I wish to strengthen is Gratitude. Sometimes as human beings we forget how lucky we are to be privileged and be able to afford all the necessities in life. I want to be able to help stray animals as well as people who are marginalized. I want to volunteer in NGOs which work towards helping poor people and fostering animals. If more and more people are aware and open minded the world will definitely be slightly better. Education and learning should not be a privilege or a luxury. Also, I think people need to be more open minded instead of negatively evaluating people constantly. If each individual works on themselves and knows how to deal with their emotions or behaviour, then they can be responsible in creating a much more harmonious and peaceful future.
I hope people are brought up to be more grateful for what they have instead of being greedy. Gratitude for the environment we live in as well as nature must be inculcated during this time of major crisis.
