“It’s in My Blood”
This poster is traced back to my first year of Bachelors in Psychology. It was the same year when a historic judgemental was passed by the Supreme Court of India – the Verdict of Section 377. The law that was dated back to the British Rule in India was now, decriminalised making gay sex legal in India.
I remember seeing the joy, the euphoric faces and the breath of relief filled with gratification. It would be an understatement calling that day “remarkable”. The history of the LGBTQ+ has been very long, difficult inspiring as well as equally fundamental to civil rights. The Western culture never accepted homosexuality and third sex, gender to be a part of their society; which makes it very obvious for our country who had been ruled by the colonials for a century to end up developing the same perspective in its norms. However, our independent India with the majority of youth is highly inclusive, educated and accepting of different people who are independent to make their choices. People of all kinds of sexual orientation, sexuality, gender types. India stood true to its reputation and proved once that we believe in “unity in diversity”.
Today, after more than a year there are still a very large number of people in the society who haven’t yet so easily accepted the community. However, at least we have begun and we’re now reaching from nowhere to somewhere – the law, the film industry, the novelists.
And with all the light I have inside of me, with my most possible ability to Hope; I Hope one day the entire world acknowledges and accepts the LGBTQ+ as “normally” as they look at the ones who do not belong to the community. We ought to celebrate love in all its forms.
HAPPY PRIDE every day, everyone.
Lots of love, respect and support!
