“The darkness of the night brings the real me to light”

-Anonymous

Stepping into my abode of four walls,

Calling it home away from home,

I relish every ounce of my new freedom

Yet, keep glancing at the screen

For a text from Dad, “come home immediately”.

The inky skies, the moon shining bright,

Brings all insecurities to light;

Fear grabs me by one hand, and

Anxiety clasps the other,

Leaving me paralyzed.

A sudden knock at the door startles me;

Moving gingerly, I open the door,

And much to my relief,

It’s only my roommate, Natasha,

With a smile lighting up her face.

Sensing my enervation,

She fishes out the leftover cheesecake.

Diving my spoon in such sinful decadence

And chocolate smothered over my lips,

Amuses her to the core.

The stillness of the late hours engulfs us both,

Bonding over broken relationships, betrayal and more.

Conversations reek of discontentment, jealousy, love;

And levity.

The ultimate escapade from the mundane!

At last, the hot coffee arrives in my favourite mug

Saying “you grow when you learn to let go”.

Tuheena Raj really weaves magic in her words.

Her poetry heals me, an antidote

Through this topsy turvy journey called LIFE

Late night talks reveal the darkest in us, always.

We seek comfort in our collective misery,

Seeking happiness, the validation

Only to discover that it all

Comes from within!
