A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes or designer clothes. A waterlogged stick will do just fine. A dog doesn’t care if you’re rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart and he’ll give you his. How many people can you say this about? How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special? How many people can make you feel extraordinary?

Forgive me if I misquoted anything, but these lines from Marley and Me have stuck with me since the first time I watched the movie and I couldn’t agree more!

I was raised around dogs and all the things you can learn from a four-legged furry animal, you will never learn in a classroom, from a textbook or at work.

Psychology itself has a number of studies about the benefits of having a dog. Apart from being support animals, dogs can play an important role in your daily life. Scientific research has shown that pet owners are more likely to fare better on a number of aspects than those who do not own pets. It is seen that the levels of extroversion and fitness are higher, they are also less preoccupied and fearful. Dogs are an asset to those going through emotionally trying times. While there are therapy dogs specifically trained to work with individuals who have certain, having a pet has been proven to help with dealing with loss, rejection, depression and anxiety even without training. Studies have shown that having a pet can positively affect your social relationships and well-being.

Onto why I think there is nothing more beautiful than the bond you share with a dog!

I can tell you about the numerous personal benefits of having a dog from my experience like being saved from a whole pack of strays, saved from people following me or having someone listen to me, but I’m sure we already know all the heroic things our dogs can be. So let me tell you about how my dog saved me.

My dogs have saved my soul every day in every way. They have given me more than I can ever give them. It doesn’t take a language for them to understand exactly what you want to say. Just as I’m on the verge of tears, my little love bug comes and nuzzles his wet nose into my neck or comes and puts his head in my lap. It doesn’t take a lot for me to know that he wants to say, ‘hey, I’m here for you’.

Some people may say that I’ve saved a few dogs through adoption or by feeding them, but I know better. They saved me, from doom, from death, from sadness and from the darkness. There will always be a part of my heart that has been carved in the shape of every dog I’ve had, loved and buried.

I believe in my heart that until you love a dog, a part of you and your capability to love will remain undiscovered. Because this love that we know as all-powerful and mighty is its purest form in four legs, a furry coat, a wagging tail and one wet nose.
