All of us would have failed at some point. But did you ever give up because of this?

Everything in life has a purpose despite the difficulty, the obstacles that you face and the discouragement that you get. Perseverance is the determination to achieve success even when you face challenges in the path that you take.

Here are some ways to improve your perseverance:

1) Firstly, make reasonable goals

Your goals must be “SMART “

SPECIFIC – clear, well-defined and provide the right direction

MEASURABLE – include precise dates to measure the degree of success

ATTAINABLE – make goals that you believe that you can achieve. Unattainable goals would just make you demoralize yourself and diminish your confidence.

RELEVANT – Make goals that in line with the work that you are doing and your career in general.

TIME-BOUND – Make sure that you have a deadline for your goal

2) Break down these big goals into smaller ones

Once you look at the big picture and create specific goals, break them into smaller milestones with detailed planned tasks. Prepare the things you need and create a task list. Complete each task earlier than the set deadline so that you have some time left for the final review

3) Motivate yourself

Being without motivation makes you feel disappointed and frustrated with yourself. Research shows happiness increases productivity and makes you more successful. Monitor the progress that you make and celebrate it because nothing can be more motivating than progress.

4) Get out of your comfort zone

This is a tough thing for many for us. Initially, you can start by switching your routine. This is because we always stick to a routine that is comfortable for us. Try something new and adapt to it as adaptability is known to improve perseverance. Start a conversation with a person next to you – it helps you learn new things about the world you are living in and understand different ways of learning.

5) Stay optimistic

Start the habit of writing a journal every day which states the tasks that you have to do throughout the day, the bonus you would get when you complete a particular set of tasks.

Smile. This may sound simple, but this has a direct link with optimism.

Meditate every day. Even just seven minutes of meditation a day has been shown to improve mood, decrease stress and improve sleep

6) Take care of your mind and body

Live a healthy life as energy is the main fuel for perseverance. Self-care is a must. Taking time out to care for yourself can remind you and others that you and your needs are important, too. Having a well-cared-for body can make you feel good about yourself and your life and conveys to others that you value yourself. This can contribute to long-term feelings of well-being.

7) Surround yourself with the right people

Whether we realized it or not we become like the 5 people we spend the most time with. We start behaving like them, thinking like them, looking like them, we even make decisions based on what we think they would want us to do. For example, we are more likely to engage in an exercise program if we surround ourselves with the fit and health-oriented people.

When you choose to be surrounded by people who are happy to support your cause and glad to celebrate your achievements, you are raising your will to persevere. The knowledge that there are people behind you in whatever endeavour makes you strong and willing to take chances.

Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.- Thomas Edison

If you love what you do stay with it and don’t be discouraged. You will succeed.
