Last week, I posted the first part on how to manage our emotional wellness. To be honest, this may or may not seem to be something we would want to do on daily basis. Because, somewhere we feel that we have it all under control and that it’s our own emotions and we are well aware on what to do about them. And maybe yes.
They are your emotions and you might feel that you know how to handle your emotions. And this isn’t even about handling your emotions but knowing them. But what I would say is that till a long time even I felt that I know what to do with my emotions and that I know what I am feeling when. But this post it to make you see a little more, to allow yourself to look at a different perspective and to know about things which you did know about all along but you never really knew.
I wrote about 4 steps last time and today I have more.
Step 5: Balance
There’s a saying which tries to tell us that if/when we put too much of ourselves in something we lose a part of ourselves there. Maybe like the giver-receiver theory. We keep giving so much that in the end we hardly receive anything in return. That’s when you need to have a balance. Maybe between work and personal life or studies (school/college) and life. Make times for activities you enjoy in your life and try to find something positive in your life.
You know, a lot of times you would have read that you need to have balance to take out time for yourself. And you have read it very often because it is important and necessary. Because while you are doing something so that you get finally get your dreams in future, you also need time to know what your dreams are and get time out to make them real. So maintain a balance because life is like a bicycle, to have balance you have to keep moving.
Step 6: Care
Take care of yourself? Yeah. But what am I focusing on here? Your physical health.
No, I’m not asking you to start intense workouts from the next day or something else. I’m just saying that you have to maintain 3 important things:
- Eat Healthy and have a proper diet
- Exercise regularly (walking, jogging or something that will keep your body active)
- Get enough sleep
Your physical health is important for you to maintain your emotional health. I’m not going to stretch on this because we have had all of this in our syllabus enough times but the reason it has come so often is because it is that important. Half of your illnesses are related to your emotional health and you can avid the other half just by following 3 simple steps for your own good.
Step 7: Connect
I feel like I’m doing some sort of Facebook promotion here but I’d rather not. Go out with your friends, make lunch dates, join some group, say hi to strangers. Make positive connections with other people. Connections all but lead to support and positivity. When you connect with someone, you feel like you belong somewhere, that someone understands you and there is a different feeling when you have a connection with someone. And while you are reading this, you can think of someone with whom you have connected and if not you can always give it a try. So go ahead, Connect.
Step 8: Purpose and Positivity
Find a purpose and meaning in your life. Find out where you can find something that makes you feel alive and happy. It may be anything you love to do or anyone. The point is to find a meaning. And that won’t come instantly. There maybe a lot of trial and errors but in the end you will know where you belong.
And well, the main aim is positivity. Forgive and forget, move on and let go. Make yourself feel light. Do what keeps you happy and makes you look forward to life.
It’s your life and you have to live it the way you want. But life is all about emotions. And your emotions, make you ‘YOU’
