“Some days the dark clouds follow you around. They are intense, they are scary, and we feel there is no escape from them. The world stops making sense with these black giants looming large upon us and we are not able to ‘run away’ from them. Though it may not feel like it, we can overcome the gloom.
Talk to someone who understands you, step out for a while – even when you feel physically incapable of doing so – and never ever give up hope. Though these clouds will engulf us from time to time, it is very much possible to get out of their shadow. And do remember ‘You are not the darkness…the cloud is!’”
Sierrah Wasie, 24, is from Upper Michigan U.S. and is studying psychology. She creates art to expel negative emotions and to give form to feelings that at times seem too big for words. Since her childhood, she had loved to create as a way to express her feelings. As she grew older and struggled with depression and anxiety, art became her main coping mechanism. Most of her art is created with a mixed media of coloured pencils, markers, paint pens, watercolour, and pen. She hopes that through sharing her art she can not only help herself, but also help others who are struggling with their mental health. You can follow her on Instagram @she_awoke.
