Chains of Guilt

He sits there trapped in his mind,

Stuck behind the chains,

Constantly playing out scenarios,

Constantly thinking of the past,

How he has someone new,

Someone who wants to give him everything,

But…

Something is missing,

Something only she had,

He tries to figure it out,

“The chains reappear”

The world becomes a blurr,

He constantly ponders on their last talk,

How her voice put him at peace,

Made him feel different,

Gave him clarity,

But…

Once the talk is over,

He comes back to reality,

He knows she’s no longer with him,

But…

She will always be an angel in his mind,

Someone he can never forget,

Never see hurt,

Never push aside.

“The chains grow tighter”

He becomes silent,

Not speaking unless spoken to,

All signs of life drained away…

“He pushes back”

He can’t allow the chains to consume him,

He begins to fight back,

He grabs the chains,

Then…

The chains trigger more memories,

He falls to his knees,

Begins to cry,

Almost fully give in…

He stands slowly,

Shouting no,

You won’t win,

You can’t control me any longer,

“He grabs the chains”

He pulls at them,

Then he hears a Crack,

Then another,

Then…

“The chain snaps”

Life comes back,

He gains control,

But…

He knows the war is not over,

He can’t stop,

He must keep moving,

Otherwise, the chains will return,

And fully consume him.
